Just Stay Away

Just Stay Away
by Tony Wirt

It’s always funny to me when authors write books about authors. Tell me you’ve never had a real job without telling me you’ve never had a real job. Oops, my mistake Mr. Wirt used to work for Dairy Queen and can still do the signature swirl at the top of a soft ice cream cone. My apologies. That’s impressive.

In Just Stay Away by Tony Wirt, Craig is a stay at home dad with the cutest daughter ever. She is truly adorable, and such a good kid, but she’s still a kid and keeps bugging her dad while he tries to write. That’s why he’s so happy when she makes a friend, a boy named Levi. Too bad, Levi is a complete psychopath. The kid is truly demonic, with shades of Damien and the Glenn Close character from Fatal Attraction. No bunnies get boiled, but that’s only because there were none on the scene.

How would you even keep a kid away if the parents see you as the problem? Do they even grant restraining orders for minors under ten? There is something especially horrific about dangerous children, isn’t there? Sure, you could probably beat them in a cage fight, but no one is going to give you any rewards afterward.

I don’t know what Craig could have done to protect his family when even his wife starts to doubt his side of things. The dangers are real and deadly, even while the villain in question can’t carry a full bag of groceries.

It was worth the read and the suspense is real. And creepy. I’ll never look at croquet the same way again.
